Artist, Debra Lynn
Hello and thank you for your interest. For a brief introduction, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York then moved on to the suburbs of the Jersey Shore to raise a family. My paint party instruction began in Asbury Park, NJ in 2015 when the “Paint & Sip” industry blossomed. This novel idea of “paint and sip” was absolutely thrilling because it presented an opportunity to share the joy of painting in a fun atmosphere. My experience as a paint & sip instructor was extremely rewarding and soon afterwards I launched my own business as a “Mobile Paint Party Artist.” Recently, I added the art of alcohol ink to my paint parties. This fluid art grabbed my attention a few years ago so I took several workshops with acclaimed ink artists, learning a variety of techniques. The versatility of alcohol ink for creeative freedom makes it a perfect medium for a novice and a fun experience.
My artistic background began as a young child through the inspiration of my father who had a natural talent for sketching, drawing and woodworking. As a young adult, I studied at Parsons School of Art & Design where I learned the basics of layout, text, calligraphy and design. My fine art skills in acrylic painting were tweaked years later through various studies with notable Artists in New York and New Jersey. Being inspired by nature and through my travels to National Parks and Europe, my acrylic painting quickly took a focus in landscape art. For me, the transformation from a blank canvas to a picturesque landscape is the ultimate reward.
Pottery is another passion of mine which has been a significant part of my art world. About fifteen years ago I undertook the challenge of wheel throwing and from the moment I sat at that pottery wheel, my connection with clay took hold. There was quite a bit of frustration in the beginning but I was captivated by the art of throwing clay. My determination to stick with it brought a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. To be able to throw a lump of clay and shape it into a vase, a mug or a bowl is fascinating plus the learning curve of glazing, carving decorating is seemingly endless.
I have a passion for creating fine art and pottery but my true reward comes from sharing the joy of art and seeing the pride of accomplishment that it brings to those who are willing to give it a try.
My pottery and fine art can be seen and purchased on my portfolio website www.artbydebralynn.com
